Agricola Biologica Catiello, founded by Mariano Renda, is rooted in a centuries-old family history, lived among ancient olive trees, living monuments of Pisciottana olive trees, silent witnesses to countless generations of farmers and laborers who have succeeded one another through centuries of hard work. These majestic and vigorous olive trees are surrounded by oaks, strawberry trees, myrtle bushes, wild lavender, and spontaneous herbs, overlooking the marine bay in a charming landscape that stretches from Punta Licosa to Capo Palinuro.
After years of "archaic" cultivation and the use of the old family olive mill, the production cycle of the olives has gradually improved, leading to the present day, with assisted cultivation, mechanized harvesting of the fruits, and increasingly careful attention to using all the best external resources available in the area to transform the product into an excellent extra virgin olive oil.
Today, the olives are certified to be produced with organic methods at all stages of the production chain, from the field to the table, and great attention and care are dedicated to guaratee protection and generous productivity of the large Pisciottana olives. This includes the introduction of small new plantings with carefully selected varieties that are suited to the characteristics of the soils and the available environmental resources and conditions.
The study of old maps and family documents, aerial photographs from nearly a century ago, and listening to the stories of the elders who have played and then worked in these lands have allowed for the treasure of every small piece of information. This includes identifying ancient plantings, dry stone walls, and paths created in distant times, which now are patiently restored year after year.
Agricola Biologica Catiello di Mariano Renda, cultivates, alongside the olive trees, the family dream of establishing a small farm capable of combining the most modern techniques of organic production, harvesting, and transformation with respect for tradition and history. The goal is to share the fruits of this endeavor through high-quality products that offer taste and well-being.
A land both harsh and sweet, where I have the fortune to hold intimate memories and authentic sensations from my happiest youth. I have had the rare privilege of seeing with my own eyes and hearing with my own ears the characters of a very ancient Cilento that was coming to an end, struggling to leave behind an archaic, 19th-century peasant life, marked by material poverty and small things, but also by simplicity, nobility of spirit, respect, dignity, and honor. Countless frames of Cilento life parade through my mind, filling my memories, from silent summer evenings spent walking in a sea of fireflies to the aromas and bustling voices of the grape harvest and olive mill. Ah yes… the olive mill! The anticipation of the first oil, the excitement of the first tasting, surrounded by the satisfaction of those who had worked for it all. Perhaps this is why I am here, stubbornly in Cilento, combining past and future to the best of my abilities, to transform olives into oil, a good once so precious that it served as currency and a medium of exchange, and which has always been and still is a source of wealth in this beautiful land.
